Our Story

About Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar yoga uses the ancient techniques of yoga, as understood and practised over many years by Yogacharya Sri B.K.S Iyengar of Pune, South India.  The idea of Meditation in Action is a keynote of the Iyengar system.  Being totally aware and absorbed in the poses as they are being done is meditation:  the body and mind communicate at a subtle level and are harmonized.  The Iyengar method is not just a sophisticated form of physical exercise and deep breathing -  it is a spiritual practice aimed at integrating mind, body and inner self.

Our Vision 

Now more than ever we need highly trained professionals to teach yoga correctly.  Yoga is a powerful tool and can be used well or badly. I established Banbury Village Iyengar Yoga in 2018 because whatever your starting point, I know that everyone has the capacity to feel stronger, well balanced and have the vitality to live life to the full.

Sandra Grant

Yoga Teacher

Sandra has been a student of Iyengar Yoga since 2004, and qualified following a three year teacher training programme in 2018. A former nurse who served 6 years in the army, Sandra has a strong background in athletics, climbing and fitness training. 

Sandra's classes are completely inclusive for people at all stages of life and yoga practice. She gives detailed and encouraging instructions and her classes are welcoming and fun. I have made progress not only in what I can physically achieve, but also in my own body awareness.
